Most of these involve students. Since I teach English at a state university, I have a great many students who do not know what they are doing in college, but whatever it is they seem to be doing, if something goes wrong, it turns out to be the teacher's fault. I gave a quiz to a sophomore literature class today. One student never turned in the essay part of the quiz. I am willing to bet that it will be my fault!

Another pet peeve--Corpus Christi drivers who do not understand that the Yield signs along the freeway do not mean STOP. For some reason, CC drivers do not understand the concept of merging into traffic coming off the freeway; instead, they park their big SUVs in everybody's way and get downright huffy when other folks attempt to merge. AND some of those same drivers coming off of the freeway want all other drivers to come to a complete halt at the Yield sign and wait until absolutely nothing can be seen for a mile back up the freeway. They will shout ugly words at other drivers, if those other drivers attempt to adjust their speed and merge into the lanes ahead. Heaven forbid that anyone should have the temerity to scoot across a lane. Wonder what they would do in Dallas or Houston?

Is Blogging a Symptom of the "It's All About Me" Generation?

I have a feeling that blogging is the most self-conscious act I will ever do (perform?). Why would anyone care about what I think and am experiencing at any given moment? BUT surely the same kind of thing could have been said about the first issues of the Tatler or the Spectator--those fun rags of long-ago London. Here I am writing about things I care about, people I know, and life in general. I will try to post sensible, tasteful pieces that reflect the concerns of a 60-ish widow, who lives with a goldfish (in a stinky bowl), a Chihuahua, a beautiful blonde mutt, and a needy 15-pound kitty not yet a year old.
